Redistricting data, which include additional state, county and local counts, was released on a state-by-state basis beginning in February of 2011. This census data allow state officials to realign congressional and state legislative districts in their states, taking into account population shifts since the last census and assuring equal representation for their constituents in compliance with the “one-person, one-vote” principle of the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

In Kansas, population is adjusted to reflect the residency of military personnel and college students in the state. This population adjustment is performed by the Secretary of State’s office. Adjusted population is used to construct Kansas House and Senate districts. This data was released in late July of 2011.
